All That Glitters Several years ago Lisa Martinez wanted a name bracelet for her birthday. Robert, her husband ordered the bracelet from an acquaintance and never heard from her. So he went to a bead store and made the bracelet for her. Lisa wore it to work, she is a flight attendant for American Airlines. Her co-workers loved it and asked if she could get Robert to make other bracelets for them….and the rest is history. Today literally hundreds of flight attendants wear Robert’s creations. Robert draws upon his experience from the 70’s when he was traveling through India, Afghanistan and Nepal, collecting beads and jewelry and many years later he returned to his roots and decided that the magical island of Bali was the best place to again collect beads and jewelry to make his creations. He has friends in the Celuk region of Bali, long considered the center for silversmithing on the island, who welcome him as a family member into their homes where he dons the balinese sarong and works with the silversmiths to bring home the finest quality handmade sterling silver beads. While robert is a bit of the recluse artist, and incidently a private chef, Lisa runs the sales and administrative end of the operation. “Balihai Silver “ is the bead import business and “All That Glitters” is the collection of creations made by Robert.
